The whole city of Riga danced on April 29, 2014. The movement appeared everywhere - in the streets and promenades, as well as shops or libraries. Major events were accompanied by a two-day workshop on dancing as a part of SharedSpace project.
The context for the second Shared Space (see below) meeting organized by NTIL was the event Dance Day at your work on April 29. In this event ten professional contemporary dance choreographers of the new generation together with various professionals from Riga – hairdressers, librarians, bike-couriers, chocolate masters, ticket controllers, shop assistants and park gardeners, were creating miniature 3-5 min shows inspired by the movements and gestures these people use in their work every day. On April 29 these ten choreographies were shown in the public space – the work places of these various professionals. Spectators and passerby saw the dances as they move along the route from one work place to another.
At the end of the day everybody was invited to take part in the Bal Moderne (Belgium / France) project that took place in one of Riga central parks Esplanade at 19.00. The concept of the Bal Moderne was simple: 3 short choreographies of 3-4 minutes that have been specially made for people with no experience in dance, are taught to the public and performed together over the course of an evenings' Bal.
