The first SharedSpace (see below) meeting in Riga, Latvia took place on April 5 and 7 with participation of 15 set design students and young set designers and authors of the Black Market for Useful Knowledge and Non-knowledge. The participants of the meeting participated in the Black Market No 16 in Riga on April 5th paying particular attention on the structure and organization of the space, and how the space is inhabited by the experts and the audience. The meeting and practical workshop with the author and curator of Black Market Hannah Hurtzig and stage manager Philipp Hochleichter (Berlin) followed on April 7 at Kanepes Cultural Centre. The aim of the meetings and practical workshops in Riga was to explore scenography beyond the conventional idea of a stage set, as complex environmental space for performative events and as a place where people meet. Black Market of Useful Knowledge and Non-knowledge is a wonderful example of this concept.
