Some days ago we created a cloud in a courtyard. The idea: to establish in the courtyard in the Clam Gallas Palace a curatorial base for the Weather and Scenography theme. An installation that would allow us some time to cloud gaze, to contemplate, to consider and discuss a few of the many questions that the Prague Quadrennial poses. A cloud captured and moored to the ground to create shade and relief from the sun.
The cloud took a day to build. Iron balls were linked to steel wires and steel wires were connected to helium filled balloons. The position of each balloon was meticulously plotted in advance and each individual cloud was placed in a precise position to create our PQ cloud.
And then, of course, it was rearranged - a paper plan always requires adjusting when it meets reality.
When it was finished the sun caught the balloons in shifting patterns of shadows as they swayed gently in the wind.
It was right, it was fun, it was perhaps even beautiful.
Two days after this, it had gone. The weather had killed our cloud.
Despite rigorous testing by the PQ team, keeping a balloon inflated for over a month, it seems we had chosen a lucky balloon.
So now the cloud becomes another event, another idea that we'll try and share with you when it's no longer here to speak for itself.
It exists in photographs, in videos, it exists on Facebook and maybe for those unable to visit Prague it's still real?
