One DAMU doesn't make spring!

The 21st Zlomvaz student festival started on Wednesday May 7th this year and took place until Saturday May 10th 2014 in the DISK theatre at DAMU. The subheading of the festival "One DAMU doesn't make spring" is a tweaked Czech saying highlighting the idea of the cooperation between the different arts universities. Thanks to the participation on the SharedSpace and SpaceLab (see below) projects within the collaboration with the Prague Quadrennial, Zlomvaz was able to introduce more schools than ever! Apart from DAMU it has welcomed JAMU from Brno, VŠMU from Bratislava, the Warsaw PSWT, AKU from Bánská Bystrice, the HKU Theatre, University of the Arts, Utrecht and the The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama based in London.

Also several workshops were organized within the SharedSpace (see below) project during ZLOMVAZ festival this year. Croatian theatre and film maker Boris Bakal led a workshop on Artistic interaction in non-theatrical spaces, about Educative theatre the participants could talk to Hungarian theatre artist Gábor Takács. Frank Totino, director, actor, professor and improviser from Canada, tied together concepts of behaviour, character and narrative action using his Impro method. This workshop looked at the level at which we operate and how we interact. Other workshops were led by Jordi Queralt and Esteve Soler from Catallonia, Nick Moran from Great Britain or Bořek Jiřík and Iva Vostárková from Czech Republic.

The skeleton of the festival consists of four dramaturgical lines centred around the different aspects of theatre: the actors' line of "The Body Tells", scenography/technical line "Lazy Hand, Complete Disaster", textually focused "What is written, is given..?" and finally the somewhat enigmatic "Bunny in the Bag". Apart from the main show of student performances and workshops by Czech and international tutors and professionals, Zlomvaz also offered a dramatic triathlon, concerts, breakfast and last but not least the legendary Football Zlomvaz Cup 2014!

Lotte van den Berg

Holandská režisérka Lotte van den Berg patří mezi nejvýraznější tvůrce své generace. Její tvorba je úzce provázaná se společenskou povahou divadla. Mezi její inscenace patří Het Blauwe uur, Gerucht, Braakland a Les Specateurs, většina z nich se zabývá pozorováním, zkušenostmi praktického života a často také obtížností porozumění. Obrací skutečnost na hlavu, takže začneme věci nahlížet z jiného úhlu – anebo se z jiného úhlu díváme. Odešla z režisérské pozice v antverpském divadle Toneelhuis a založila OMSK, svou vlastní skupinu v Dordrechtu, malém holandském městě. Začala do své práce zapojovat tamější okolí, a zároveň několik měsíců pracovala v Kinshase, hlavním městě Konga. V současné době se chystá do Utrechtu jako residenční umělkyně v centru Huis aan de Werf. Její nejnovější dílo Pleinvrees vznikne pro exteriér: "Pleinvrees [agorafobie] se bude odehrávat na velkém náměstí ve středu města a nebude vám to připomínat žádné dosud shlédnuté představení. Nebude tam scéna, světla, zvuk ani hlediště. Pleinvrees je happening, výjimečné setkání."

Slovo jako kulisa - "díváme se na text"
Tomáš Svoboda

Tomáš Svoboda se řadí k neformálnímu okruhu výtvarných umělců využívajících postupů a výrazových prostředků jiných disciplín. Pohybuje se na pomezí literatury, scénografie i filmu a nejdůsledněji je kombinuje v galerijních instalacích zaměřených na alternativní formy narace. Vždy se drží výrazové úspornosti a modelovosti, často pracuje s úsečnými, popisnými texty a jejich jednoduchou skladbou. Instalace doplňuje fragmenty trojrozměrných kulis nebo architektonických konstrukcí odkazujících k efemérním stavbám ve filmových a televizních studiích.
