The Nová Síň Gallery opened in the 1930s on the suggestion of the Union of Creative Artists, which had been founded by prominent Czech artists of the so-called National Theatre generation. In the 1960s the gallery was one of the most prestigious exhibition spaces in Prague. However, during the 'normalization' period of the 1970s and '80s the gallery program was mostly subject to the political demands of the time. Following the Velvet Revolution the Union of Creative Artists again assumed responsibility for exhibitions at the gallery. This continued until 2014, when it was taken over by a private operator. The building is now part of the convent of the order of St. Ursula.
